Maine fullback Jared Turcotte arrived back at campus today with a healthy knee and a surprise honor as a second team All-American by the Sports Network.

Sophomore guard Malachi Peay returns to the court for the Black Bears Saturday after two facial injuries sidelined him for more than a month.

Maine catcher Myckie Lugbauer was named a third-team Louisville Slugger Preseason All-American by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper today. Lugbauer led Maine with 43 RBIs last year and 19 doubles. He finished the year with some solid batting stats: • .343 batting average

Farkes, Belcher, Cosgrove ...

Former Maine quarterback Adam Farkes just may surface at Division III Trinity College next fall. The team competes in the NESCAC and went a perfect 8-0 this season. The team's coach said he has spoken to Farkes but would not comment further.

Belcher an All-American

The accolades keep on rolling in for defensive end Jovan Belcher who was named a First-Team All-American this week by two organizations: the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and the Walter Camp Foundation. Belcher was named a second team All-American last year.

Here is today's update on the QB situation up at Maine. Basically Adam Farkes was granted a release and has plans to transfer down to a Division II or III school so he doesn't lose a year of eligibility.

It's all over

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA -- This time, there's no hope for a surprise anything. The University of Maine football team was beaten soundly by Northern Iowa by a score of 40-15 in the first round of the NCAA FCS playoffs on Saturday night. And so ends the 2008 season for this plucky team.

Belcher and six more pick up CAA honors

Maine's defensive end who's been called a "game wrecker" was named the Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Year on Monday. Jovan Belcher led the CAA in tackles for loss with 15.5, and ranked second in sacks with 7.5.

A former Portland Pirates beat writer who has covered two winter Olympics for the paper, Jenn will expand her beat this year to include the University of Southern Maine, St. Joseph's College, Bowdoin College, the University of New England, and Southern Maine Community College.

She will continue to cover the University of Maine Black Bears, the state's only division one program.
