The Maine women's basketball team is losing its leading scorer Brittany Boser, who will skip her fourth year of basketball eligibility to graduate in May. This is according to a press release sent out by Maine today.

Grand Slam...not the Denny's kind

Courtney Gingrich blasted a fastball out of the park Wednesday afternoon for a grand slam that led Maine softball to a 6-0 win over Boston University in Game 2 of a doubleheader. It was a career first for Gingrich, a senior infielder for the Black Bears.

Maine's football schedule

The Maine football team still needs one more opponent before its 2009 schedule is complete. Maine added Albany to its schedule on Sept. 19.

700 wins

University of Southern Maine baseball Coach Ed Flaherty notched his 700th win when the Huskies beat Calvin College 21-5 on Wednesday to wrap up a 9-0 trip in Arizona. Flaherty, a 1976 graduate of Maine, has an overall record of 700-302-3 at USM.

Hot start for USM baseball

The Huskies are 8-1 out of the gate this year, and haven't dropped a game since Game 2 of a doubleheader on opening day. USM's latest win came Monday via a solo shot in the bottom of the eighth by Chris Burleson, a former Deering standout.

Jenn covers Maine college sports for the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram.

A former Portland Pirates beat writer who has covered two winter Olympics for the paper, Jenn will expand her beat this year to include the University of Southern Maine, St. Joseph's College, Bowdoin College, the University of New England, and Southern Maine Community College.

She will continue to cover the University of Maine Black Bears, the state's only division one program.
