Bald Eagle in WinslowText and photos by Scott Monroe I got a call here in the newsroom Saturday around noon from a woman with a cool tip: Two bald eagles have taken up residence just across the Kennebec River, near the Two Cent Bridge. I made my way over there about an hour later and, sure enough, there was a big bald eagle perched on the branch of a cottonwood. I didn't see a second eagle around, but this one sure did stand out. I estimated the eagle was about 50 feet from the ground where he rested up on his branch. I snapped some photos with my 4-megapixel point-and-shoot digital camera. Thanks to the 10X zoom, I was able to get reasonably close shots of the great bird. The eagle stayed mostly still as I snapped photos below him, though he did turn around completely after a few minutes, as if to say "enough already." After about 10 minutes of my paparazzi antics, the bald eagle finally decided to ditch me; the bird spread out his massive wings and took flight, heading north along the Mill Road.
