Rep. Barney Frank coming to Maine

U.S. Rep. Barney Frank of Massachusetts will be in Maine next month to mark the passage of Maine’s gay-marriage law, according to the Maine Democratic Party.

The fundraiser will be held from 6-9 p.m. June 20 at the Harbour's Edge Room on Custom House Wharf in Portland.

"As a consistent advocate for the LGBT community, I am sure Rep. Frank was pleased to learn that Maine becomes just the fifth state in the nation to support full marriage equality," party Executive Director Arden Manning said in a statement. "We are thrilled to have the Representative join us in thanking Maine legislators for their courageous work on this issue in Augusta."

Frank complimented Gov. John Baldacci for signing the bill.

"I'm especially pleased to be able to thank my friend and former House colleague, Governor Baldacci, for signing it," Frank said in a statement.  "And I'm happiest of all to be attending with my partner, Jim Ready, a Maine resident who is proud of his state."

Tickets are still available at www.mainedems.org/pride.
