Pollster: Governor's race "free for all"A North Carolina polling company this week added to the evidence that most Mainers have no idea who they’ll vote for in the 2010 governor’s race. Public Policy Polling called the race wide open and cited recent results that show 30 percent of voters said they plan to vote Democratic, 26 percent intend to vote Republican and 18 percent want an independent. Those polled were especially hard on Gov. John Baldacci, a Democrat who won’t be on the ballot in 2010. Only 25 percent say they approve of his job performance, 57 percent said they disapprove and 18 percent weren’t sure. As for those who are running, the polling company narrowed the field of 20+ to just four, choosing to ask voters about Democrats Libby Mitchell and Steve Rowe and Republicans Peter Mills and Les Otten. In hypothetical general election pairings, Mills leads Mitchell 34-31 and he leads Rowe 33-25. Otten doesn’t fare well against either Mitchell or Rowe, but a huge chunk of people are undecided. Another thing to remember is that Republican Steve Abbott -- Sen. Susan Collins’ chief of staff -- confirmed this week he’s seriously considering a run. Don’t expect any final decision from him until January. The plot will thicken as others decide whether to jump in or not. Once again it goes to show that money talks. I think that it is time that the people get the chance to make a decision on what is best for Maine and not what others think they should cause they don’t hear it all. We have seen the same in Augusta for years and the people of Maine are tired of it. The ones in the circle need to be over taken and the ones working and trying to make a living and raise there children to enjoy the meaning of “the way life should be” need to let it be heard. Our chance is now and let that been shown.
