New poll: Yes on 1 leads
It’s still crazy close, but a poll conducted Saturday and Sunday shows those opposed to same-sex marriage leading 51-47.
The pollster, Public Policy Polling of North Carolina, calls it “more or less a tie given the poll’s margin of error.” However, it’s a shift in the direction of same-sex marriage opponents after a poll by the same company two weeks ago showed a 48-48 tie.
As we’ve known for weeks, Question 1, which seeks to overturn the state’s gay marriage law, is going to come down to which side gets people to the polls on Tuesday.
The polling firm says it could come down to “the age breakdown of who shows up” because most older folks don’t support gay marriage.
MaineToday Media -- the Portland Press Herald, Kennebec Journal, and Morning Sentinel -- is planning to cover the issue from all angles Tuesday night and in the coming days, so check out our coverage online and in our print editions.
If you want to read the poll, you can find it at www.publicpolicypolling.com.
