Govs. race could grow to 20 next week

Did you see today’s story by Morning Sentinel reporter Amy Calder about Waterville Mayor Paul LePage’s expected gubernatorial run?

Apparently, his PR team got out a little ahead of LePage, a Republican who is scheduled to announce his candidacy for governor on Tuesday. A press release went out this week, but LePage said he’s not ready to announce until his official kickoff at Governor’s restaurant.

If he jumps in, it will bring the total number of candidates to 20. And others are still mulling/planning or close to announcing. The June primary is only nine months away so the time is near for those who are serious about getting into the race.

In the Republican primary, LePage would face: Matt Jacobson, Peter Mills, Les Otten, Bruce Poliquin and J. Martin Vachon.

Here’s the Democratic lineup: Donna Dion, Dawn Hill, Eriq Manson, Libby Mitchell, Steve Rowe, Rosa Scarcelli, and Peter Truman.

The Greens will likely have a two-way primary with Patrick Quinlan and Lynne Williams.

And the unenrolleds at this point are: Samme Bailey, Eliot Cutler, Augustus Edgerton, Alex Hammer, and John Whitcomb.
