Gay marriage opponents launch Web site
The Maine Marriage Initiative, a coalition of organizations and individuals who oppose gay marriage, recently launched a new Web site.
Linda Moulin of York, a member of the coalition's steering committee, said in a statement that people can "join social network groups, contact legislators, and become informed about the facts and myths associated with same-sex marriage."
The bill, which has yet to be printed, would define marriage as the union of two people, rather than one man and one woman. It would allow any two eligible people, regardless of sex, to be issued an application for a marriage license.
Also, it would recognize marriages performed in other states and allow religious institutions to continue to have control over their own doctrine. It's sponsored by Sen. Dennis Damon, D-Trenton.
