Baldacci: Prisoners to go out of state
Of the many cost-saving measures in Gov. John Baldacci's $6.1 billion budget, he acknowledged one in particular may prove to be controversial.
He's proposing to send 118 prisoners to out-of-state private facilities. He said those targeted for transfer would be serving long sentences and have few ties to Maine.
"I know that this proposal will be difficult and will be met with opposition," he said.
There will be much more on Baldacci's budgets -- the supplemental and the new two-year proposal -- in the weekend editions of the Kennebec Journal and Morning Sentinel.
