Against the flow of traffic

It’s official: The Kennebec Commuter has seen it all.

This morning, a driver somehow used an exit on Memorial Circle to ENTER the rotary and start going the wrong way toward the bridge. They drove about halfway through the rotary, as other cars halted in the middle of the circle and other entrances. Fortunately, there was no accident and no one was hurt.

Of course, this begs the question of how a driver could make what seems to be an obvious mistake. Are there enough signs and striping to indicate to drivers what direction traffic is supposed to go in the Memorial Circle vicinity?  Would it be easy to make such a mistake?  What are your thoughts?  Drop us a line on the blog, or e-mail us at mmalloy@centralmaine.com
