Gardiner brings back Brown on defense

Matt Brown has been around Gardiner football most of his life, both as a player and a head coach. He resigned two years ago but returned as a volunteer assistant this season. Until recently, Brown worked in the tower, relying observations to coaches on the field. But last week, head coach Jim Palmer installed Brown as defensive coordinator, a position he always held while a head coach.
“I went back over to the offensive side,” said Palmer, who held that position under Brown for several years. “I didn’t know defense that well, I did the best I could.”
Brown had the Tigers go to a 6-4 formation in an effort to make them more aggressive and so far it’s worked. The real test will come next week when the Tigers take on unbeaten Leavitt in Turner.
“The whole tempo of the game is different with that style of defense we’re playing now,” Palmer said.
