Syracuse rallies to beat MaineSYRACUSE, N.Y. — The University of Maine nearly pulled it off, but Syracuse rallied to beat the Black Bears 41-24 at the Carrier Dome tonight. Maine was ahead 17-13 at halftime, and looking impressive on both offense and defense. The Orange pulled ahead in the second half and Maine was unable to rally. QB Warren Smith threw for 305 yards and completed 24-of-35 passes. He tossed three touchdowns and two interceptions. Maine outgained the Orange 430-385, but suffered from 17 penalties for 132 yards. Maine Coach Jack Cosgrove was not happy with the second half performance: "We got beat 28-7 in the second half and we gave away the football game. I don't think we played as hard. I was happy with the first half, but it was tough to see it get away from us like it did." He said he decided to go with Smith at QB on Friday night: "I don't think we knew for sure until Friday what we were going to do. We had to make sure he handled the game plan properly. So I'd say Friday."
