Burleson drafted by Reds

Southern Maine shortstop Chris Burleson was drafted in the 36th round by the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday.

The 5-11, 185 pound shortstop brings a lot of speed to the table among his other skills. He hit .390 for USM this year, scored 69 runs and stole a team-high 27 bases.

The former Deering High standout was at home in Portland when his name came up on the scroll at MLB.com as the 1,079th pick just after noon today.

Teammate Anthony D'Alfonso was not drafted, but is hoping to sign as a free agent.
