Welcome to this first effort at blogging. I plan to add to this once or twice a week to share some of what my wife and I find during our year in Fairbanks, Alaska.

David B. Offer, who retired as executive editor of the Kennebec Journal and the Morning Sentinel, is spending the year as a visiting professor of journalism at the University of Alaska in Fairbanks.

During his career he served four years as a Pulitzer Prize selection juror, and the New England Newspaper Association presented him with the Yankee Quill Award for lifetime contributions to journalism in New England.
