Tops in the minors

Baseball America's latest issue publishes a top prospect list for every minor league. A handful of players from the Red Sox organization made it, including one double-dipper:

Casey Kelly was listed No. 6 in the advanced Class A Carolina League as a pitcher (3.09) and No. 2 in the lower Class A South Atlantic League as a pitcher (1.12) and shortstop (.224 average).

Kelly is supposed to meet with Red Sox officials later this year and decide which position he will stick with next season. If he's not a pitcher, it will be shocking.

No Red Sox players were named on the Triple-A list. In the Double-A Eastern League, pitcher Junichi Tazawa (2.57 ERA) was listed No. 7, and outfielder Josh Reddick (.277) 12th.

Besides Kelly in the Carolina League, there were four others: No. 9 outfielder Ryan Kalish (.304); No. 12 first-baseman Anthony Rizzo (.295); No. 17 catcher Luis Exposito (.274); and No. 18 outfielder Che-Hsuan Lin (.264).

Both Kalish and Exposito finished the year in Portland, and are now in the Arizona Fall League. Lin and RIzzo are expected on Portland sometime in 2010.

In the South Atlantic League, there is Kelly and No. 14 catcher Tim Federowicz (.257).

In the short-season New York-Penn League, outfielder Ryan Westmoreland (.296) tabbed No. 1, followed by No. 9 pitcher Alex Wilson (0.50); No. 15 infielder Derrik Gibson (.290); and No. 19 third baseman Michael Almanzar (.230).

In the rookie Gulf Coast League, outfielder (and first-round draft pick) Reymond Fuentes (.290) was No. 3; pitcher Roman Mendez (1.99) was No. 12.

In the Arizona Fall League Thursday, shortstop Jose Iglesias hit a two-run home run. he was later hit by a pitch in the seventh inning, and replaced in the eighth inning. No word on if he was injured ... outfielder Ryan Kalish also had two RBI with a sacrifice fly and a single.
