Tale of two leftiesGood thing I was concerned about C.C. Sabathia going on 3 days' rest against the Angels Tuesday night. He lasted only 8 innings, allowing 5 H, 1 R, 2 BB, and striking out 5. 101 pitches. Meanwhile, the Angels traded for lefty Scott Kazmir to help him against the Red Sox and Yankees in these playoffs. He left after four innings (4 runs; 89 pitches). In his two playoff games, Tuesday and a week ago Sunday in Fenway, Kazmir threw a total of 10 innings, allowing 9 runs. In the Arizona Fall League, outfielder Ryan Kalish is enoying the southwest. Kalish went 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI on Tuesday... Both Luis Exposito and Jose Iglesias went 0-for-4. Relievers Chris Province and Dustin Richardson both pitched 1 inning. Province: 2 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 1 K ... Richardson: 3 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 3 K. Bookmark/Search this post with:

Kevin covers baseball for the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram. He first reported on spring training games for the St. Petersburg Times in 1978. He wisely moved to Maine in 1994 and now writes about the Portland Sea Dogs and Boston Red Sox when he's not coaching Little League baseball. He is married to Nancy, and the couple recently completed their lineup card with the birth of their ninth child. |
