Red Sox trade for outfielder Jeremy HermidaThe Boston Red Sox traded minor league pitchers Hunter Jones and Jose Alvarez to the Florida Marlins for outfielder Jeremy Hermida. Getting ready for life without Jason Bay? More likely, Hermida is insurance and a quality back-up. Heremida, 25, hit .259 last year with 13 home runs and 47 RBI. Jones, 25, a former reliever with the Sea Dogs, made his major league debut with the Red Sox this year (11 games, 9.24 ERA). Alvarez, 20, went a combined 9-4 with a 2.26 ERA with short-season Lowell and advanced Class A Salem. In other moves, the Red Sox sent pitcher Fernando Cabrera, outfielder Joey Gathright and infielder Nick Green to the Pawtucket roster.
The Sea Dogs, by the way, will begin selling tickets for the 2010 season on Saturday. Bookmark/Search this post with:

Kevin covers baseball for the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram. He first reported on spring training games for the St. Petersburg Times in 1978. He wisely moved to Maine in 1994 and now writes about the Portland Sea Dogs and Boston Red Sox when he's not coaching Little League baseball. He is married to Nancy, and the couple recently completed their lineup card with the birth of their ninth child. |
