Guessing on the Phillies, RJ

The Yankees vs. Phillies is a good match-up. Hope the weather holds up (The Series should be nearly over, but for the blasted, drawn out TV schedule)..

The New Yorkers, with their starting pitching, closer and deep lineup, look ready to claim the title.

The Phillies will have to get solid, deep outings from their starters, while stringing together hits against the likes of Sabathia and company.

I think Philadelphia can do it. Because it has the pitching (especially if Pedro can be Pedro) and enough quality bats (Rollins, Utley, Victorino, Werth, Howard, etc.).

Let's say Phillies in six games (as a reminder, I'm the guy who picked Boston over the Angels in four games).

Brad Mills is finally leaving Terry Francona. The Sox bench coach will be Houston's new manager.

So who takes Mills' spot? I'm guessing first-base coach Tim Bogar is a candidate.

And if Bogar (or third-base coach DeMarlo Hale) gets the job, then there is another opening.

Maybe it's finally time to call up RJ (Pawtucket manager Ron Johnson). Johnson has been with the Red Sox organization since 2001 (including a two-year stint in Portland, 2003-04).

And if Johnson goes to Boston, do the Sea Dogs lose their manager (Arnie Beyeler) to Pawtucket?

Speaking of the Sea Dogs, outfielder Ryan Kalish (.290) and catcher Luis Exposito (.263) are both hitting in the Arizona Fall League. Shortstop Jose Iglesias is batting .276. Maybe the 19-year-old will be ready for Double-A in April.

Kevin covers baseball for the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram. He first reported on spring training games for the St. Petersburg Times in 1978. He wisely moved to Maine in 1994 and now writes about the Portland Sea Dogs and Boston Red Sox — when he's not coaching Little League baseball.

He is married to Nancy, and the couple recently completed their lineup card with the birth of their ninth child.
